Wilson Transformer Company provides transformer solutions for coal fired and gas fired power stations, hydro power stations, solar applications, thermal power substations and wind farms.
We have designed and manufactured transformers to suit both Medium Voltage (MV) and High Voltage (HV) substation applications. Our MV Substation design is optimized according to parameters such as generation profile, feed in tariff, distribution voltage, corrosive environment, wind profile, project design life, expected revenue per kWh and cost of capital.
Case 1 – Manapouri Power Station, New Zealand
Client
Meridian Energy, NZ
Product
3 x 135MVA 220/13.8kV power transformers
Project description
Meridian Energy made a decision to order new transformers after finding a fault within the cooling fins of the existing units. Two replacement units plus one additional unit to replace the station spare were procured. WTC had been awarded a contract to manufacture, deliver and supervise the installation of these three transformers based on the very tight delivery time. This project was crucial for both Meridian Energy and WTC due to the urgency of the work, technical challenges and transport constraints. The first unit was delivered in 4.5 months while all three were commissioned within 6 months.
Case 2 – Yallourn Power Station, Australia
Client
Energy Australia
Product
2 x 225MVA 230/20kV power transformers
Project description
Energy Australia (previously Tru Energy) required two of the main generator transformers replaced at the Yallourn Power Station whilst maintaining minimal disruption to the generating capacity. The two teams integrated their planning of the installation process working closely together and as a result the project was executed in a streamline manner.
Case 3 – Clyde Wind Farm, United Kingdom
Client
Scottish Power
Product
6 x 120MVA 275/33kV grid connection power transformers
Project description
The Clyde North and Clyde South wind farm is a very remote site with difficult access and subject to extreme weather conditions. The 4 units to Clyde North and 2 units to Clyde South proved to be very challenging, but with careful planning and execution of controls measures, the 6 transformers were installed successfully and have been operating ever since. The 720MVA wind farm was the largest land based renewable project in Europe at the time.
Case 4 – Gullen Range Wind Farm, Australia
Client
Goldwind Australia
Product
2 x 90MVA 330/33kV power transformers 56 x 2,800kVA 33,000/690V wind turbine kiosks 17 x 1,600kVA 33,000/620V wind turbine kiosks
Project description
The Gullen Range Wind Farm became fully operational in December 2014 where power is generated from 56 x 2.5 megawatt and 17 x 1.5 megawatt wind turbines representing a total renewable energy capacity of 165.5 megawatts. The wind farm includes a substation with 2 x 90MVA 330/33kV generating power transformers for connection to the National Electricity Grid.
Case 5 – Broken Hill & Nyngan Solar Farm, Australia
Client
First Solar
Product
41 x 1,600kVA 22,000/360V step up transformers (Broken Hill) 77 x 1,600kVA 33,000/360V step up transformers (Nyngan) 500kVA 33,000/400V transformer (Nyngan) 4 x 10kVA 33,000/230V transformer (Nyngan)
Project description
The Broken Hill Solar Plant consists of a 53MW solar PV power station located 5km southwest of Broken Hill. The Nyngan Solar Plant consists of a 102MW solar PV power station located 10km west of the Nyngan township. These are the largest solar farms in Australia.
