Project description

Project description
The Telfer mine site is a fly-in-fly-out operation, 400 kilometres east-south-east of Port Hedland and approximately 1,300 kilometres north-east of the state’s capital, Perth. The ore from the mining operations is processed to produce gold ore and a copper-gold concentrate. In recent years, Wilson Transformer Company has supplied product and supported Newcrest Mining in services to deliver the necessary power to the mine.

Project description
Mining commenced at Firetail in late 2012. The Train Load Out facility was commissioned in late November 2012 and the first ore was transported on the new Fortescue Hamersley Line in December 2012. Stage One of the US$3.2 billion development was officially opened on 6 May 2013. It produces 20mtpa. In March 2014, Fortescue officially opened its 40mtpa Kings Valley project at the Solomon Hub, marking the completion of the US$9.2 billion expansion of its Pilbara operations. The Firetail and Kings Valley projects have evolved Fortescue’s product mix.

The Roy Hill Project is a 55 million tonne per annum (Mtpa) iron ore mining, rail and port project developed in West Australia’s Pilbara region. Situated approximately 115 kilometres north of Newman, Roy Hill is a world-class, low phosphorus, Marra Mamba iron ore deposit located in the Pilbara – one of the world’s premier iron ore provinces – and the only independent iron ore project with West Australian majority ownership. Wilson Transformer Company delivered all the power transformers on time with exceptional performance during manufacture and installation.
